Wayfair: Curated Merchandising Platform

The Problem: In the world of merchandising for Wayfair’s many proprietary brands and stores, three teams were doing the same job using different methods and tools. Each team had done a great job creating scrappy ways to get their work done, but these workflows were incredibly manual and time intensive (e.g., sorting hundreds of product screenshots across massive collaboration boards).

My Role: I listened to hours of interviews with merchants across each of the three teams and consulted with business stakeholders. I needed to understand what their day-to-day tasks involved, what was and wasn’t working with their current (lack of) tool set, and what capabilities they would need as their function advanced. Using these insights, I created an object model and user flow that united the separate teams into a single shared language and workflow.

The Result: Product design could begin the process of creating a new curated merchandising platform with a unified user flow.
